Meant to document public works projects, these photographs developed into so much more. These rich, visually compelling exposures survive as one of the most extensive records of early twentieth century St. Louis. In them, we find silver slivers of experience and chance glimpses of crystalline moments. They capture a city literally in the process of being made, a hectic urban world unfolding before the lens.
